Our roots grow with us.
Familiarizing ourselves with various definitions and examples of revolution and humanities was a fundamental aspect of the HUMES curriculum. We were to come up with our own working definitions of the terms as the year progressed, and this section contains mine.
These understandings serve as the curriculum’s foundation. The word “foundation,” however, often connotes a concrete, motionless framework. I have titled this section “The Roots” because roots provide steadfast stability without ceasing growth themselves. A tree’s roots grow proportionally to its crown, similarly to how my understandings and definitions grew proportionally to the work and time I put into the course.
